Second Life of Buildings report launched

Buro Happold is part of a group of leading organisations in Poland contributing to a new report about the Second Life of Buildings – “Revitalisation and modernization in Poland”

The report highlights the key social, technical and economic aspects of revitalisation, related challenges, as well as best practice. The report features a number of recently completed Buro Happold projects – including our new office located in the recently refurbished Spektrum Tower. The report also features the David Attenborough Building at the University of Cambridge, Bartlett School of Architecture, part of UCL, as well as Ethos in Warsaw.

The purpose behind the ‘Second Life of Buildings’ initiative is to unite organisations interested in the revitalisation, modernisation/change in use of existing constructions and the overall view of city revitalisation processes. The report also aims to stimulate a wide-ranging discussion with experts from a variety of specialisations, so we can exchange experience and prepare solutions to support the development of cities – including the enrichment of their surrounding areas – by giving buildings a new lease of life and a new purpose. The initiative tackles the question: How should we design and transform a city or a building, to best serve whole generations for as long a time as possible?
