Will the Ofgem Access SCR Decision fundamentally change how developments should be considered?

The way in which new electricity connections are charged will be subject to fundamental changes on April 1st, 2023.

The Ofgem pricing reform Decision – the ‘Access and Forward-Looking Charges Significant Code Review’ or Access SCR, could reduce overall charges for new electricity connections that require network reinforcement as well as offering flexible access options which could remove constraints upon connection solutions.

How does this affect project procurement and planning?

Amongst others, developments which previously seemed unviable due to high upfront reinforcement costs, could now go ahead. Consideration should also be given to the timing of applications, phasing of demand to align with capacity, etc.

The Total Utility Management team, led by Chris Glover and John Lamb, will discuss the implications under Access SCR, what clients need to know and provide specific use cases around different charging levels.

A summary of Access SCR will also be available as well as the opportunity to talk to Chris and the team about how the pricing reform could help unlock a particular project or development.
