Facade Typologies Masterclass

Manu will present an analysis of the most typical facade types in relation to performance and buildability.

What are the knock-on effects of choosing the wrong facade typology in the early design stages and how this decision can limit an architect’s opportunities.

Manu will also be talking about the most typical cladding types and how these may lend themselves best to the project’s architectural aesthetic. Touching on facade vocabulary and principles to create a common ground for the Q&A at the end.

Manu joined Buro Happold in 2021, and currently covers the position of Senior Facade Engineer in the London Facades Team. After graduating in Building Systems Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano in Italy, he gained professional experience as a facade contractor and consultant in specialised facade consultancy teams.

Manu has a multidisciplinary engineering degree which combines facade and structural engineering with building physics, with an approach focused on the whole design process of buildings
from concept to construction. His knowledge relates to building materials, facade systems and
performance requirements, building physics and parametric modelling.

Living in different countries (Italy, Spain and the UK) during his studies and working experience, helped him to develop flexible thinking by being part of teams with different backgrounds.
