Telkomsigma is the leading information and communication technology solution provider in Indonesia. The company is looking to expand its business portfolio, and invited Buro Happold to work alongside Jakarta Konsultindo review and advise on new opportunities as part of an integrated development plan for a site in Semarang, the capital city of Central Java province.

Challenge

The development site is well-connected, located adjacent to the city’s international airport and with direct access to Semarang city centre, the city’s commercial port and the new Kendal Industrial Park. It currently hosts a number of cultural and recreational activities and events, such as the popular Jateng Fair. We are looking to build on this advantageous location, and the site’s existing reputation as an event-led destination, to deliver a larger development that offers more in terms of cultural, social and economic gain.

Solution

Our team is providing a vision for the project that incorporates both a comprehensive commercialisation strategy and an integrated development plan for the regeneration of the PRPP site. We are looking at how best to leverage investment opportunities in Semarang’s local economy through land use changes and large-scale urban development to realise a regeneration that will increase land value and deliver an event-led destination at the forefront of digital innovation in Indonesia.

Value

Through the expansion of Jateng Fair into a digitally integrated multi-event destination, PRPP has the potential of becoming a successful digital innovation cluster that generates economic growth for the city of Semarang and the wider Central Java province. PRPP’s redevelopment will also align with Telkomsigma’s parent company, Telkom, in its objective to lead Indonesia’s digital transformation by evidencing how the introduction of its digital core services can bring value to urban development projects.
