Buro Happold announces six new partners for 2023

We are pleased to share news of six new partners joining the global partnership.

They will join a global group of 80 partners, which continue to represent an ever-widening range of skillsets, backgrounds, geographic locations and expertise. 

In line with our 1-3-6 strategy, Buro Happold continues to grow in terms of our breadth of leadership globally, and these new partners will play a crucial role in helping generate sustainable growth and delivering on our future strategic objectives. 

Meet our new partners

Alexander Flügge – Europe 

Joining Buro Happold in 2021, Alexander is a technical director in our Berlin MEP team.  

With over 25 years of experience managing teams working on large construction projects within the healthcare and commercial sectors, he is responsible for the MEP group in Germany and developing key client relationships within the science and tech sector in the region.   

Ana Araujo – UK

Joining Buro Happold in 2014, Ana has been surveying and providing design advice for existing buildings around the world for almost two decades.  

Bringing her expertise to our facade consultancy team, Ana leads teams working on a portfolio of existing building projects, providing advice to help clients manage, transform and upgrade their assets.

Dr James Dickinson – UK

James joined Buro Happold in March 2005. After developing energy utility infrastructure planning and design capability in our infrastructure team, James became the director of Buro Happold’s energy group in 2016. 

A chartered mechanical engineer, James has a doctorate in sustainable energy systems and an in depth knowledge of both renewable and low carbon energy systems. Including the impact of climate change on buildings and infrastructure and future-proofing for technology transitions.

Mark Lavery – Middle East

Regarded as a tall buildings expert, Mark has worked on a portfolio of projects at the leading edge of tall building engineering over the past 20 years. 

Joining Buro Happold in 2010, he has worked on more than 50 tall building projects across the Middle East, Asia, Europe, the United States and Australia throughout his career including three over 600m tall.

Richard Walder – UK

Richard joined Buro Happold in 2005 and leads our UK science and technology portfolio. In his role, Richard has led the engineering on schemes on a wide range of projects including the RIBA-Award winning Michael Uren Biomedical Research Hub in White City.

He is presently developing Europe’s largest multi-let speculative life sciences facility, which will set the benchmark for commercial science buildings in terms of both functionality and sustainability.   

Rob May – UK

Starting in our Leeds office, Rob joined Buro Happold as a structural engineer in 2004 before relocating to the United States and then China to support our growth in the regions.

Now based in our Bath office, Rob has led large multidisciplinary project teams across multiple sectors and regions internationally including the Education City Stadium for the recent world cup tournament.
