Davood has over 20 years experience of design, assessment, inspection and supervision in bridge engineering and has worked on special structures including telecommunication masts and towers and water tanks. He has worked in the UK, Singapore, Sri Lanka, USA and Italy. In the Middle East he has worked in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. He previously worked with the University of Bristol, Flint and Neill Partnership, Robert Benaim & Associates and OPUS International and joined Buro Happold in 1999.

Davood established the dedicated Buro Happold bridge engineering group in May 2001. Over the past decade the team has won eight international bridge design competitions. They have won merit awards and high commendations and created over 30 award winning projects in 11 countries in the UK, Europe, Asia and North America working on spans from 20m to the 400m long,

A graduate and post graduate of the University of Bristol qualifying as CEng FICE MIHT PhD BSc DMS Eur Ing, Davood believes the key to delivering vision is working collaboratively with architectural and engineering partners. He serves as an Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Reviewer, member of the Concrete Bridge Development Group (CBDG) and CEETG.

Ponte della Musica

Construction of Ponte della Musica, a new dual purpose pedestrian and public transport bridge crossing the substantial River Tiber in Rome, is due to begin early in 2008 and will take 18 months to complete. This major crossing will join the banks of this substantial river between the Foro Italico and the area of Flaminio. The bridge is a key part of the Rome city plan which involves the development of a new east-west axis along the Via Guido Reni on the east bank of the Tiber. It will connect the various cultural and sporting facilities of the Flaminio district with the Olympic stadium and other sports facilities on the west bank in Monte Mario. The scheme consists of two inclined steel arches supporting a steel deck.

M8 Harthill Footbridge thumbnail

M8 Harthill Pedestrian Bridge

The M8 Harthill footbridge is a landmark structure situated approximately halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow, crossing Scotland’s busiest motorway.  Connecting the M8 Motorway’s first ever service station to the town of Harthill, it replaces an existing overbridge that has fallen into a state of disrepair. The M8 is the main East-West corridor through Scotland with the Heart of Harthill Services providing a well known midway point.  Several interesting sculptures line the route, the new structure will add to this providing an iconic gateway for motorway users passing from one side of the country to the other.

Sackler Crossing thumbnail

Sackler Crossing

The Sackler Crossing plots a serpentine path over the Lake at Kew Gardens. Buro Happold was commissioned to design a crossing in collaboration with John Pawson Architects, this project was completed in May 2006. Clear visual connections are established between the bridge and the repeating natural forms of its setting – the gently rounded contours of the land, the smooth expanse of water and the powerful vertical lines of the trees.
