Chris Coulter is a lighting designer in Buro Happold’s New York office who focuses on the integration of lighting systems with the built environment.

Chris’ responsibilities include the conceptualization, development, and implementation of lighting schemes. Chris also plays an integral role in the lighting practice’s daylight analysis sector. Daylight is an often under-utilized resource that is critical to the design of today’s high performance and sustainable buildings. For each project, he works with the design team to develop specific daylight performance goals.

Through sophisticated daylighting studies, Chris is able to provide a more productive work environment while reducing energy demands of electric lighting and HVAC systems.

Chris recently completed work on the new Louvre Abu Dhabi. He helped in achieving the architect’s vision for a ‘rain of light’ within the interior spaces by allowing natural sunlight to permeate the dome through an intricate lattice structure.
