Introducing our new US Region Principals (Spring 2019)

We’re proud to announce the recent promotion of seven new US Region Principals. They are based across the United States in New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles.

With expertise in everything from MEP engineering to LEED certification and computational design our new Principals offer clients a wide range of specialist engineering and consultancy skills. Find out more about them below.

Matt Herman

Matthew Herman is a principal who leads Buro Happold’s Chicago office and is responsible for the day to day operations of the MEP and environmental design teams. Matt’s experience includes a variety of projects ranging in scale from system component design to master planning primarily in the cultural/civic, commercial, residential, and education sectors. He is especially interested in low energy design and energy analysis including energy modeling, post occupancy monitoring, and life cycle assessment for existing buildings and new construction.

Panji Grainger

Panji Grainger is a principal at Buro Happold with 22 years of experience including three and a half years on site as the MEP design team leader for the London 2012 Olympic Stadium. Panji has a varied range of project experience, including high profile stadiums, high-rise, mixed-used commercial, retail, and residential buildings. Panji has worked in various countries, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, India, Malaysia, and the United States. Panji has a long history with Buro Happold working on complex, multidisciplinary design projects that are delivered within tight deadlines.

Panji Grainger

Patti Harburg-Petrich

Patti Harburg-Petrich, SE, LEED AP BD+C is a principal at Buro Happold. She has a passion for community-centric work, adaptive reuse and seismic retrofit, sustainable design, and aviation and transportation projects.  Patti is a licensed Structural Engineer in the state of California, LEED Accredited Professional, Building Design + Construction, and certified Disaster Service Worker for the State of California Safety Assessment Program. She serves on the board of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California and on the Executive Board of the ACE Mentor Program, the Southern California Development Forum, and the ASCE Structural Engineering Institute BPAD Executive Committee.

Ron Elad

Ron Elad is a principal at Buro Happold with expertise in project leadership, complex geometry, computational design and fabrication. Ron leads multi-disciplinary engineering teams on projects that require cross-office collaboration where Buro Happold is the prime consultant. He also leads the US cultural sector and provides project and team leadership to help clients meet their goals. Ron is also actively engaged in academic studios and leading seminars at education institutions including University of California, Los Angeles ‘Suprastudio’, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Texas Austin, and University of Southern California (USC).

Sarah Sachs

Sarah Sachs is a principal with 18 years of design experience in the built environment.  With a background in mechanical engineering, she focuses on the integration of all engineering disciplines with design and sustainability. Her work encompasses all stages of the design process from planning to post occupancy evaluation. Sarah has extensive international project experience and has worked on educational, commercial, cultural and residential projects as well as master planning and detailed energy/technology studies. A dedicated practitioner of sustainable design, she utilizes her expertise beyond project work and has been involved in sharing her knowledge in the classroom through teaching positions at Columbia, Cooper Union, Cornell and Yale.  Sarah is also a Trustee for the Happold Foundation, a charity dedicated to using engineering skills and experience to make a positive impact on people’s lives.

Sarah Sachs

Stuart Brumpton

Stuart has over 20 years’ experience on a wide range of projects in the education, commercial, sport, cultural and civic sectors. Stuart has extensive experience with integrated project delivery, maintaining client relationships and linking resources globally. Having lived and worked in the UK, Germany and the US he is able to draw on a range of experiences and best practice to ensure design solutions respond well to the client’s and architectural vision. Stuart is a member of Buro Happold’s commercial expert community which helps communicate best practice throughout the company.

Stuart Brumpton

Yasmin Rehmanjee

Yasmin Rehmanjee is a principal and structural engineer with 18 years of experience in the building industry across the globe, having worked in the United States, Middle East, and Asia. Her experience includes a range of building types, such as auditoriums, healthcare facilities, tall buildings, and sports stadiums. Yasmin has extensive experience managing large teams across multiple offices to meet aggressive deadlines, including her work as the project manager for the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a highly-sustainable 2 million ft2, 80,000 seat home for the Atlanta Falcons.
