Ben’s experience and knowledge of building physics and sustainability ensure that the buildings he design consume less energy, are more comfortable to occupy, and have minimal impact on the environment.

He uses his knowledge and experience to evaluate and drive the design from concept to construction, and beyond. His previous employment at the Building Research Establishment (BRE) provided a platform to develop a strong practical understanding of buildings from the hands-on testing and monitoring that he carried out. This allows him to link his understanding of building performance in theory to building performance in reality.

Ben has 14 years of experience in the built environment, specifically dedicated to the impact that building physics has on occupant comfort and experience, whilst simultaneously minimising energy consumption and carbon emissions. Ben has developed a close relationship with Fosters and Partners on a number of projects since joining Buro Happold including a hotel in Mecca, a sports park in Hong Kong, and high-profile office accommodation in both Moscow and London.

Detailed energy modelling is required for LEED using the ASHRAE 90.1 methodology. Ben has experience carrying out this analysis and understands the close relationship required with the MEP team to refine a process that helps optimise and de-risk this assessment.

Ben’s passion for multi-discipline design and experience in energy modelling provide low-risk solutions resulting in buildings that truly perform as intended.
