Emily McDonald

Emily is our UK 3.0 Chapter Partner sponsor and a structural engineer by trade. Emily acts as a Project Principal on some of Buro Happold’s most high profile projects as well as being a senior point of contact for clients. Emily is passionate about educating the next generation on the fascinating and varied opportunities a career in the built environment can offer. 

Fergus Anderson

Fergus is our UK 3.0 Chapter Co-Lead. Having participated in the inaugural Pathfinders cohort, he is delighted to share his experiences with those making up the latest cohort. He is interested in the resilience of the built environment and how it will adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Natasha Watson

Natasha is our UK 3.0 Chapter Co-Lead. Her experience as a Pathfinder was transformative, and she is excited to help facilitate the UK 3.0 Chapter to get as much out of their time as I did. She is Buro Happold’s embodied carbon lead for the UK.

Alex Calkin

Alex is a Bristol-based business development expert turned urban planner from our Bath office. He believes people can lead and experience change in the places where they live. He is excited to explore this concept during his time in C:Lab.

Alex Mulroy

Alex is an Infrastructure Engineer working in Bath. He is interested in the interfaces between the complex systems that make up our urban spaces, the competition for space and the incorporation of nature based solutions. Alex is excited to see how the diverse, interdisciplinary C:Lab network can make positive steps towards a better built environment and a sustainable future.

Antigoni Karaiskou

Antigoni is an architect by background. She has a keen interest in sustainability, policy, scientific evidence, society and economy. She believes the thought-provoking environment of C:Lab feels like is a great place to start shifting her focus from sustainability consultation into action.

Arturo Reyes

Arturo is a trained Architect & Sustainability Consultant based in London. He works on early stage design optimization and certifications. Passionate about urban social justice, Arturo is excited about the positive contributions that C:lab’s diverse network can generate.

Bianca Laura Latini

Bianca is a senior sustainability engineer in our Bath office, she works on social value, circular economy, embodied carbon and strategic policy-related work for a number of different contexts. She has been involved in C:Lab over the last few years via various endeavours and looks forward to getting properly stuck in.

Christopher Short

Working globally with Buro Happold as a computational structural engineer, Chris enjoys working collaboratively with others to tackle the biggest challenges in the built environment. He looks forward to challenging the norm and to networking outside his discipline.

Ed Wilkins

Ed is part of our London waste and logistics team after recently completing a secondment in the US. He looks forward to collaborating with other C:Labbers and hopes that the programme brings about genuine, positive change in the built environment.

Eliott Higgins

Eliott is a chemical engineer with a PhD in green hydrogen. Based in Edinburgh, he predominately works on the development of heat networks. Providing technical and economic analysis of low carbon energy systems. Excited to grow my network and collaborate via C:lab.

Iain Currie

Iain is a planning consultant based in our London office after joining Buro Happold in Riyadh. He has a strong passion for the built environment and belief that strategic and proactive urban design can eradicate a lot of the challenges seen within our cities and beyond.

Madison Marshall

Madison is a London-based sustainability consultant with a background in water engineering and sustainable development. They are keen to re-engage in broader sustainability discussions and progress their own, and Buro Happold’s, role in future urban environments.

Mark Gill

Mark is a London-based transport planner who works and thinks globally at the intersection of masterplanning and transport planning. An architect and urban designer by background and an urbanist and bicycle planner at heart. He is looking forward to reflecting on the world beyond projects.

Monica Laucas

Monica is an economist in our London cities consulting team. Through her work and personal endeavours, she aspires to contribute to the design of inclusive cities and resilient communities. She believes taking part in C:Lab will be the perfect opportunity to drive positive change.

Paul Eddlestone

Paul is a Structural Engineer and project consultant based in our Bath Office. For the last nine years, he has specialised in delivering significant sports sector projects. He recently moved into our cities project Leadership team, supporting some of Buro Happold’s largest international urban planning projects.

Paul Norman

Paul is an environmental consultant looking forward to collaborating and exploring ideas within C:Lab. he aims to broaden our environmental offer, particularly around land-use strategies and climate resilience, and services we could deploy in Scotland.

Yutao Song

London-based analyst and developer Yutao first trained as an architect, then gained further degrees in spatial analysis and computation. He believes C:lab is a platform for us to brainstorm together and explore cutting-edge solutions to address complexities.

United States

Alice Shay

Alice Shay is a principal with our US Cities team. She leads urban design and strategic planning projects, climate resilience strategies, land use and industry studies, and strategic planning initiatives for cities across the US and internationally. 

Sarah Sachs

Sarah Sachs

Sarah is our partner sponsor for the C:Lab US Chapter. Based in our New York office, she has a background in mechanical engineering and focuses on the integration of all engineering disciplines with design and sustainability. Her work encompasses all stages of the design process, from planning to post-occupancy evaluation.

Alex Nutkiewicz

Alex is a cities consultant with a PhD at the intersection of multi-scale building energy performance and data science. She applies her research to the development of techno-economic decision-making tools to inform the design of urban-scale energy infrastructure.

Alexis Santella

Alexis is a computational deployment specialist in Boston. Her passion for computation led her to a role developing tools for MEP engineers. Her top priority is expanding the use of computational tools across the practice.

Bing Wang

Bing is a senior building physicist in Buro Happold’s Analytics team. Bing employs advanced simulation technologies such as CFD to evaluate building performance and support design. His focus started with thermal comfort and expanded to other aspects, such as visual comfort and spatial quality.

Kirsten Melling

Kirsten is an associate consultant focusing on ESG & sustainability. Based in Chicago, she is passionate about helping clients develop comprehensive sustainability strategies and detailed plans to achieve carbon neutrality, zero waste and broader sustainability goals.

Lucas Lieberman

Lucas is a mechanical engineer in Buro Happold’s LA office and focuses on delivering the lowest operational energy use for projects. His most recent focus is electrification and our grid’s impact on the operational carbon of our buildings and cities.

Maxwell Chien

Maxwell Chien

Max is an associate principal in Buro Happold’s New York MEP team. He brings 14 years of experience in MEP design, mostly in higher education and cultural spaces. He is passionate about electrification and delivering a low embodied carbon future for MEP systems.

Michael Darfler

Michael is a senior strategist with the brightspot strategy team. His background in engineering, education, and environmental psychology helps him support clients to define and articulate their vision and plan for the future. He believes deeply in the power of the built environment to be an agent of positive change.

Michelle Christopher

Michelle is a sustainability consultant in the Washington, DC office. She works primarily as an energy modeller with a focus on optimising operational energy and driving high-performance buildings but is interested in all strategies related to better, healthier and more sustainable development.

Nash Emrich

A licensed architect turned sustainability consultant with experience in urban revitalization, Nash currently guides clients to integrate sustainability strategies on a variety of scales and project types. Nash thrives when leading visioning workshops, is an expert in biophilic design, and is well-versed in neighborhood-scale urban planning.

Valerie Leon-Green

Valerie is an engineer in our US facades team. Her work has focused on facade analysis, including thermal performance and embodied carbon, as well as contributing to the BHoM with facade computational methods. Originally from the LA office, she is excited to join the San Francisco team in March 2023.

Europe

Paul Rogers

Paul is partner sponsor for the C:lab Europe chapter. He is based in Berlin and a key figure in the development our European offices. His motivation is to help the C:labbers find their proposition for the future of our industry.

Sabine Müller

Sabine is our Europe Chapter Co-Lead. As an alumnus of Chapter 2.0, she looks forward to sharing her experience and supporting the new cohort to explore​ and address the challenges of the future we face as a business.

Veronica Günther

Veronica is Europe Chapter Co-Lead and Head of Marketing and Communications in the region.  She will accompany the Europe Chapter 3.0 on thier journey from exploring forward thinking themes to the generation of viable propositions and outcomes.

Kitty Walker

Kitty is a facade engineer based in our Berlin office. She is passionate about exploring the relationship between liveability and closed-loop sustainable cities.

Oliver Lerch

Oliver is a structural engineer based in our Munich office. He decided to join C:Lab to explore new horizons within the engineering and built environment space and exchange ideas with other specialist teams.

Mirette Khorshed

Mirette is a sustainability consultant who works on carbon and life-cycle assessment and optimization. Based in our Warsaw office, she joined C:lab hoping to bridge her urban planning and architecture background with her current work while meeting new people.

Nils Voerste

Nils Voerste is a lighting designer with the Berlin lighting team. Nils joined Urban C:lab to explore sustainable design solutions as drivers for climate adaptation and resilience.

Oliver Stainton

Oliver is a structural engineer based in Buro Happold’s Berlin office. He joined the C:Lab programme because it provides a great platform for exploring ideas and innovations outside current working norms. Helping him to identify and drive positive change.

Ante Baric

Ante is our partner sponsor for the CLK chapter and brings extensive experience in business planning, project appraisal and development of strategic projects across different built environment sectors.

Charise Desquitado

Our CLK chapter manager, Charise, has supported the initiative since C:lab 2.0. She joined Buro Happold’s Abu Dhabi office and later moved to our Dubai office where is the office manager.

Jack Rose

CLK Chapter co-lead and C:lab Pathfinder. Jack is a management consultant and project manager with a portfolio of complex projects that led him to develop a broad technical, commercial and managerial skillset.

Pooja Ganatra

As a senior consultant at Buro Happold, Pooja leverages her expertise in architectural engineering and acoustics to drive sustainable urban and master plan development, with a strong focus on health and well-being strategies. Pooja is also a part-time lecturer in Acoustics & Architectural Design at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai.

Dina Haddad

Dina is part of Buro Happold’s cities consulting team in Riyadh. She has been working with the practice since 2016 and is currently delivering several strategic planning projects across KSA.

Eric Tian

Eric joined Buro Happold’s Hong Kong office as a structural engineer in 2022. He has diverse experience from both engineering and design perspectives in the US and China. He is motivated by how solutions from different disciplines can be integrated.

Faris Hussain

Faris is part of our Middle East strategic planning team based in Riyadh. He started his career working for the Oman Spatial Strategy and joined Buro Happold in 2022. He has an MSc in spatial planning and is a chartered member of the RTPI.

Greg Maltsev

Greg joined Buro Happold’s consulting team in Dubai in early 2023. Prior to working at Buro Happold, Greg worked in urban research and consulting in Moscow.

Iqbal is an architect by training and now leads a small but vibrant strategic planning team in our Jakarta office.

Ismael Ibrahim

Ismael began his career at Buro Happold in our infamous London bridge team, where he embraced the team’s reputation for delivering elegant and sustainable engineering solutions. He then moved to Riyadh in early 2022 as a consultant in their cities team.

Kathy Wong

Sustainability and MEP are where Kathy’s expertise and passion lie. She spent her early career in MEP and then extended her knowledge of sustainability through her MSc studies at University College London (UCL).

Nurzhan Kairbayev

Nurzhan joined our Dubai-based consulting team in 2022. He has spent the majority of his career in technical and management consulting. His current focus is helping cities develop energy transition strategies that focus on long-term sustainability.

Oktaniza Nafila

Oktaniza Nafila is a cities consultant based in Jakarta. She graduated from the University of Twente, taking a master’s degree in geo-information, science and earth observation, specialising in urban planning and management.

Wes Sun

Wes is a structural engineer and began his Buro Happold ‘world tour’ in the Beijing office. He then had the opportunity to work in our Dubai, Hong Kong and London offices. He is currently based in the Hong Kong office.
