Imaginatively planned and environmentally executed air and rail transport hubs, marine ports, road and rail networks, rivers and canals contribute to regeneration and creating community ‘wholeness’
They link communities to the outside world, create vital routes for commercial interchange and provide access and flow within public spaces linking to local transport interchanges.
Addressing the complex challenges presented by airports, whether urban or regional, requires a holistic approach
We respond to that challenge by integrating creativity and innovation in an evidence-based way of working. Creating teams to work with trusted partners, we have delivered over 100 aviation projects from Heathrow T3 and T4 to Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, whether major expansions or new.
With our knowledge of current trends and understanding of the importance of flexibility to adapt to future requirements and technology, we work with airport operators, Architects and Contractors to optimise the design.
Diversity of stakeholders
It is our job to have a comprehensive understanding airport owners, operators, airlines, baggage handling groups and end users, from logistics and management of cargo to defining passenger requirements and passenger modelling. This knowledge must be combined with the ability to project future trends and growth.
Our sustainability team that brings global experience, contribute to the long-term planning in providing sustainable solutions. We are certified in LEED, BREEAM, and Estidama and support airport owners and operators in achieving internationally recognised awards in sustainability, reducing energy consumption and therefore OPEX.
Drawing on energy analysis at fifteen European airports we seek innovative means of integrating the passenger experience, while at the same time reducing the carbon impact and providing alternative renewable energies, where desirable. We are at the forefront of low energy design and strive to deliver airports that have less carbon emissions and are more sustainable, we deliver projects that do not cost the earth.

Rail related projects are complex by nature. At BuroHappold you can access a diverse mix of engineering specialisms to achieve success
Be it the design of stations, such as those in the Haramain High Speed Rail linking Mecca and Medina, bridges, buildings such as the new Astana station, coastal defences or any other structure within a railway environment, you can count on our deep and broad experience to create innovative, economical and sustainable solutions.
As you are aware, the long term future of rail and its sustainable growth is largely dependent on doing things better, at lower cost and more efficiently (see ARTIC). For example, we are currently developing modular solutions, based around a proven and successful BuroHappold patented technology adapted to the benefit of station car parks and bridges. You can be certain that we strive for the best possible design, operational standards and ease of maintenance.

Transport planning is key to unlocking the potential and value of any new development within the built environment, especially the opportunities around masterplanning the cities of the future. It is also key to re-creating thriving economies and communities when focusing on regeneration of existing urban environments in the UK and worldwide.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary infrastructure team the transport planning consultancy offers a wide range of planning and traffic engineering services to private and public sector clients. We have completed many prestige projects in the UK and around the world. Our main areas of work include masterplanning, transportation studies and assessments, local transport planning, parking studies, development of trip and parking manuals and network capacity assessments. Our team brings multi-skilled expertise to such challenges as the integration of new transport innovations into the existing network, traffic management and utility diversions.
To deliver reductions in carbon emissions the BuroHappold transport consultancy is particularly focused on encouraging the development of efficient public access transport hubs, the adoption of more sustainable modes of travel and the promotion of planning that reduces the need for travel.
Additionally to make roads safer for the travelling public and for commercial usage we employ comprehensive safety auditing and remedial engineering.
