Supernova, Sector 94, Noida
New Delhi, India
Supernova is the largest mixed-use development in North India, covering over 700,000m2
The scheme’s largest tower stands at 300m
Buildings all incorporate energy efficient and low carbon systems, and is set to achieve a LEED Gold rating
Breath taking in its scope, the new mixed-use Supernova township comprises a series of tall and super high-rise buildings on the Yamuna River waterfront. Its main tower climbs 300m into the New Delhi skyline, overlooking a 29 storey commercial building and two 41 storey residential buildings. A glazed podium housing retail, cinemas and a hypermarket sits below a 240m high five star hotel.
The harsh climate in New Delhi sees earthquakes, monsoons and blistering heat frequently in the region. BuroHappold Engineering’s designs needed to ensure that Supernova’s eloquent structures would be able to withstand the extremities.
Our MEP engineers were tasked with developing systems that would not only work seamlessly with the architecture of the towers, but also meet strict design codes. With the client aspiring for a LEED Gold rating, we also needed to incorporate the highest benchmarks of energy efficiency.
Our team has ensured that the development adheres to relevant design codes and standards, as well as adding value by assessing estimated loads, establishing material strength and ensuring strict fire rating criteria are met.
In order to overcome the risks of harsh weather conditions, our team carried out wind tunnel tests to optimise the performance of Supernova’s tall buildings. Further strengthening the buildings, 3D Plaxis analysis has been carried out by our geotechnical experts to design the strongest possible foundations. The result is a development of towers designed to resist high seismic and wind forces.
Our MEP engineers are taking the lead in terms of bringing new insights and new approaches for India. HVAC, plumbing and fire service designs have been developed in harmony with the structural and architectural forms to provide optimal use of space. With the goal of reaching LEED Gold in mind, the buildings are carbon neutral, and feature gravity feed water supply, fire protection, minimal use of PRV and solar panels.
Set to offer a new quality of living in Delhi, the Supernova development will provide luxury accommodation and amenities in the heart of India’s capital city. We were able to bring our international experience in engineering tall buildings and large-scale developments to deliver a project with exceptional living in a unique community.
