Tom is an Associate Engineer with 15 years’ experience within the industry at Buro Happold. Tom holds Fellowship status with CIBSE for his contribution to Industry, a marker of his commitment to engineering quality, projects and clients.

Tom has maintained strong links with local academia since joining Buro Happold; he holds a part time teaching position and for the past 10 years has been teaching the subject of “Building Management Systems & Technology”.

Tom also works closely with wider industry partners. For example, his work with Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) on various projects and joint initiatives with CIBSE. Tom is the Vice Chair of the global CIBSE ICT and Controls committee which focuses on developing industry standards and guidance around controls, ICT and technology.

Tom also sits on the judging panel for BCIA’s annual awards and is also engaged with the European Commission to develop their emerging “Smart Ready Indicator” assessment methodology.

Tom prides himself on the technical detail and the holistic approach needed to successfully deliver complex engineering solutions. He is an excellent communicator who goes the extra mile to ensure the design delivery is executed methodically, solutions technically appropriate, coordinated, and fit for the end use.

Tom has a proven track record in project delivery built around his expertise of environmental engineering, BIM, controls and smart technology integration.

His experience and work in the industry has recently been recognised by the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering (CIBSE) when he was awarded Building Performance Engineer of the Year 2020, a true marker of his holistic approach to building performance.
