Sam is a director at Buro Happold, joining our London Structures team in 2006. He has a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

His work focuses on redevelopment projects in central London, for example, Battersea Power Station, Marcol House and the ME Hotel, making him an expert in refurbishment projects. A key member of the Battersea Power Station team, he helped deliver the engineering for the repurposing and refurbishment of this iconic Grade II listed project. Sam led the heritage and heavy refurbishment design, and site works, including the successful dismantling and re-construction of the award-winning chimneys.

Earlier in his career, Sam spent a year-long sabbatical working as a design engineer and site manager for a local charity in Malawi. This, coupled with his work on similar projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, makes him a primary figure within the Buro Happold International Development Community. He is currently overseeing projects in Zambia, Rwanda and Mozambique.
