Associate Director Coastal and Maritime
Paul joined BuroHappold in 2013 based in the Bath office. He leads the Water groups capability in the coastal and marine engineering; providing specialist technical advice to the business, working within and leading multi-disciplinary water and infrastructure teams.
Paul has a broad experience of coastal and maritime engineering consultancy; the conceptual masterplanning, feasibility, technical assessment, through to detailed design of a wide range of coastal protection, flood defence, port, and waterfront development projects worldwide, for both public and private clients. He has played key roles in projects across 14 countries, principally in the Gulf, India, Mediterranean and UK. This includes globally significant projects such as the Qatar-Bahrain causeway, Kuwaits new mega-port, a major new military maritime facility in Asia, and the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
He is also used to working on a smaller scale, often independently, providing specialist third party design review and value engineering services to shoreline development and marina projects notably in Bahrain, Qatar, Beirut, often by direct appointment. This international experience has always been supplemented by important work in the UK, principally flood defence schemes for the Environment Agency, coastal defence and amenity improvements for local authorities, and coastal flood risk assessments for planning applications.
His experience and skills are recognised in the industry, including through his role as a lead author for CIRIAs Beach Management Manual 2010. He is Chartered Engineer, and a reviewer for the ICE.
