Markus, a graduate of Kassel University, has 20 years experience as a structural engineer. His key areas of expertise are design and construction in existing buildings and timber structures.
Before joining Buro Happold, Markus gained experience in special engineering offices Pichler Ingenieure and WTM Engineers GmbH. He has also worked with Swiss architect Max Dudler and the German architectural office ‘code unique’ among others. Markus enjoys taking part in design competitions with architects. He has a strong relationship to architecture and integral planning. In his own words: “Cooperation already starts in the early design stages, and I am convinced that it leads to creative, innovative and good technical solutions.”
Markus has an outstanding capacity for teamwork, great communication skills, is highly motivated, curious and creative. Based in our Berlin office as the discipline leader and group director for structural engineering, Markus is leading the German structural team on projects including, Mercedes Platz Berlin, a new entertainment district close to Eastside Gallery and Mercedes Benz Arena.
He is also working on Tetris Berlin, a development of a hotel, offices, residential buildings and retail spaces at the former Tacheles site in the heart of Berlin and Grand Central Berlin, an office building close to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (central station).
