Julian McFarland

Julian is a Director of Structures at Buro Happold. Joining our London office in 2005, he has over 20 years’ experience in structural engineering, working on a broad range of projects across different sectors and building types.

Julian has a track record of successful delivery of refurbishment projects, with sustainability at their core, reducing embodied carbon and breathing new life into existing structures. He has extensive experience working on: new build hotels, offices, large scale residential and retail projects, overcoming the challenges of deep basements, retained facades and constrained city centre sites.

Julian is responsible for facilitating design reviews across the Structures team, harnessing the wider knowledge of the practice and ensuring design quality. He regularly leads multidisciplinary teams, bringing together a range of specialisms to deliver a holistic design for the client.
