Ian is a Director with over 20 years of structural engineering experience in the UK and overseas. Joining Buro Happold in 2005, he is now based in our Bath office.

Ian has worked on award winning new build projects, bridges, and refurbishments of listed buildings around the world. He has led multidisciplinary design teams delivering complex projects across sectors including cultural, commercial and education.

Coordinating structural design with architecture and building services is one of Ian’s strengths, which helps him to deliver high quality, well detailed structural design. He is able to design structures and bridges in all structural materials and specialises in timber and aluminium.

In 2003, Ian was a finalist in the Young Consulting Engineer of the Year Competition organised by the Association of Consultancy and Engineering. He led the structural design of the John Hope Gateway in Liverpool, one of the first timber buildings to be designed using Eurocode 5. The project subsequently won an award for its engineering design from the Institution of Structural Engineers.

From 2014 to 2018, Ian was the Project Director for Phase Three of the Battersea Power Station Project in London.
