Hayden is a Buro Happold Partner and structural engineering designer, with strong creative, analytical and technical skills.

Having worked with many of the world’s leading architectural practices, he has nearly 35 years of experience in design and construction, gained working on a large number of high-profile and challenging projects around the world. He has spent periods of his career working in Hong Kong, London, Berlin, Dusseldorf, New York and Dubai, which means he is able to bring global a perspective to the projects he works on.

Hayden joined the practice in 2011 as a Director in our Hong Kong office, where he led teams working on world class projects such as the West Kowloon Train Station and the Boundary Crossing Facility, both in Hong Kong, and the Morpheus Hotel at the City of Dreams entertainment complex in Macau. In 2016, he returned to London to join our site-based design team delivering the iconic Battersea Power Station project.

He has a talent for tackling complex problems and finding simple, yet elegant solutions. This stems from his knowledge of engineering, geometry, manufacturing processes and construction methods and his ability to bring these together into cost-effective solutions. Although his core skills are centred on design and engineering he strives to build strong client relationships and to become a key delivery partner. In addition to engineering, he is trusted to advise on a range of issues including cost control, value management, risk mitigation, construction strategies, programme and procurement.

Hayden has particular expertise in structures with complex geometry, mixed-use developments, cultural buildings, tall and super-tall buildings, footbridges and sustainable design.
