Francesco Cerroni has spent the past 10 years researching, planning and designing equitable public spaces and sustainable transportation throughout the world.

Over the past decade, Francesco has spearheaded international projects spanning urban and transportation planning, urban and landscape design, traffic engineering, civil engineering, and cyclist and pedestrian studies across Europe and the United States. This work has encompassed both the private and public sectors in several cities across the world including, New York City, Moscow, Milan, Istanbul, Dar Es Salaam, Nairobi, Detroit, and Shenzhen.

In 2014, Francesco opened and directed the Mobility in Chain branch office in Moscow, collaborating with the Moscow DOT on numerous projects, including the ‘2020 Bicycle and Pedestrian Masterplan’. He has also worked in partnership with Audi on the ‘Future Urban Initiative’, gaining insight into the future of mobility and the impact of driverless technologies on the built environment.

Prior to joining Buro Happold in 2019, Francesco was the director of Mobility in Chain NY, partnering with a number of global design architects as well as collaborating with public authorities and city departments in various cities across the country.

His expertise lies at the intersection of planning and design, with a particular enthusiasm for future-focused solutions and innovative approaches to traditional methods. Francesco graduated with honors in Architectural Engineering in Rome followed by received a Masters Degree in Urbanism. He is also an active member of both the Urban Land Institute’s Sharing Economy Product Council and the Urban Design Forum.
