Chris McClean is a partner at Buro Happold and leads the MEP engineering, lighting design, ICT/AV and sustainability teams in Southern California.

With over 20 years of experience, Chris has managed projects in a range of sectors from large office headquarters that promote occupant health and wellbeing, to some of the most iconic cultural institutions in the world. He’s also worked with several of the top universities in the U.S, including USC and projects on six UC campuses in California. Recent higher education projects include the LEED Platinum Institute of Energy Efficiency at UC Santa Barbara, the UC San Diego Carbon Reduction Plan and the UC San Diego Future College Living and Learning Neighborhood, currently in construction.

With a strong portfolio of successfully managed projects, Chris continues to expand his experience throughout Southern California, overseeing the design and delivery of several complex projects that mandate highly integrated and innovative solutions to significantly minimize their environmental impact. Projects include Santa Monica City Hall East, a municipal facility that is on track to achieve Living Building Challenge certification and the LEED Platinum Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center. With a completion date expected in Spring 2022, Chris is also leading the MEP engineering team for the expansion and renovation of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD), Buro Happold’s first cultural project in the region.
