Alan joined Buro Happold in 2001 and became a Partner in 2008. He is a Director within the company’s Cities team, providing engineering consultancy and advisory services to clients worldwide.

Alan has over 40 years of experience in Civil and Water Engineering in both the public and private sectors.

His early career was spent in the UK public sector, before moving into engineering consultancy in 1989. Since then, Alan has worked for both public and private sector clients on projects in the UK, mainland Europe, the Middle East, North America and South East Asia. For the last 15 years, Alan’s work has been primarily focused in the Middle East.

His expertise lie in projects involving river, canal and coastal engineering, flood risk management and water resource management. Since 2005, Alan has concentrated on leading multidisciplinary engineering and masterplanning projects ranging from individual developments through to city scale planning.

Significant projects in Alan’s portfolio include: Wadi Hanifah Masterplan and Implementation, Hayle Harbour Regeneration, The Red Sea Project, Folkestone Seafront Regeneration, Wadi Aqeeq Rehabilitation, ‘Changing Course – Reimagining the Lower Mississippi River Delta’, London 2012 Olympics Waterways and Flood Risk Management, AlUla Framework Plan and Guidelines and Arriyadh Stormwater Masterplan Review.
