Adam Friedberg leads Buro Happold’s Cities Team in North America, which is made up of nearly two dozen economists, planners, engineers, resiliency and sustainability experts, social scientists, and real estate specialists.

Adam’s engineering and planning background gives him the unique understanding to develop decarbonization policy and roadmaps. Working with private and public clients across scales, he leads teams in developing decarbonization strategies, designs, and construction guidelines across buildings and infrastructure assets. Working specifically with government clients on decarbonization initiatives gives Adam a proactive view of the changing regulatory landscape throughout the US.

Adam has led some of the most progressive planning efforts in North America, including the first-ever Los Angeles Countywide Sustainability Plan, which included more than 10 million constituents and 4,000 square miles of land, as well as New York City’s 1.5 Degrees Climate Action Plan, the first Paris Agreement-compatible climate action plan in the world.

With a background in environmental engineering, he has spent over two decades consulting for private, public and not-for-profit clients around the world. His work includes implementing innovative sustainable and resilience planning and policies at the organizational and governance level, and design and ongoing maintenance strategies for buildings, infrastructure and urban and suburban planning projects. He has led a number of significant climate mitigation and resilience studies and transformational projects focused on decarbonization. He is licensed Professional Engineer and earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
