Innovative real estate lending solutions within an evolving economic landscape
Innovative real estate lending solutions within an evolving economic landscape was the theme for a senior level networking event at BuroHappold’s London offices.
Hosted in partnership with Intelligence Forums, influential players in London real estate, finance, and construction world gathered to listen to presentations by Colin Sanders, CEO of Omni Capital and Dr Jim Coleman, Head of Economics for BuroHappold.
Omni Capital is one of the UK’s leading specialist prime real estate lenders owned by Christian Candy’s CPC Group. Colin Sanders talked about the new and innovative funding solutions they offer – all designed specifically to respond to the changing economic landscape and to offer a flexible and better value alternative to the banks, helping fill the liquidity gap created by their retreat.
With a strategic focus on London and the south east, Omni have loaned almost £1bn since they were established in 2010 – a clear indicator of the need and growing popularity of new forms of funding.
Dr Jim Coleman of BuroHappold, a highly experienced economist specialising in spatial economic development and urban regeneration, followed with an overview of the economic backdrop for London and the UK.
Highlighting BuroHappold’s informed, analytical approach, Jim shared some hard facts and projections including:
- The UK economy is generally improving with GDP now at 4% above 2008 peak;
- The IMF growth forecast for the UK is 2.7% in 2015, 2.3% in 2016;
- London’s population is projected to rise to over 11 million by 2050;
- London jobs are at a record level of 5.6 million;
- Annual house price inflation is lower in London than UK.
Despite the possibility of a global economic slowdown – influenced by Eurozone instability, monetary policies in the US and pressure on housing and infrastructure – the UK economy is generally improving and guests took away a reassuringly positive economic outlook for London.
