Video: A talk on Integrated Design and Sustainable Development
Dr Phil Hampshire and Austen Bates talk about ‘Integrated Design and Sustainable Development’ at ‘The Future of Buildings – A Retrofit Showcase’ from a recent event hosted by the Carbon Neural University Network at the University of Sheffield.
The talk focuses on approaches for sustainable design and health and wellbeing through a number of examples, including the the refurbishment on the David Attenborough building. As well as their goal to design healthier, happier places for people, and the planet.
They lay out the importance of retrofit, as 80% of the buildings today will still be around in 2050. Universities have an important role to play in refurbishing their estate, as their estate size is close to that of the NHS, while being many times bigger than for example the Tesco estate or even that of all Government buildings in the UK.
Building refurbishments done by BuroHappold and talked about in this video are the Whitworth Art Gallery, the Natural History Museum and in more detail the David Attenborough Building.
