Five BuroHappold projects shortlisted for the IStructE Structural Awards 2015
Five projects from Poland, USA and the UK have been shortlisted in the IStructE Structural Awards 2015. Highlighting the structural design capabilities of the practice.
The National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion in New York along with The National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra (NPRSO) in Katowice have been shortlisted in the Arts and Entertainments category.
Commenting on the NPRSO project, the judges were impressed by “how this elegant building is fully isolated from its foundations to get the best possible acoustic quality.”
In the community or residential category, the De Vere Gardens in London has been shortlisted. In addition to the structural engineering, BuroHappold also provided civil, geotechnical and façade engineering consultancy. The judges were impressed with “the engineering solutions employed to ensure the listed structure was restored back to its former glory, with no adverse effect on the Victorian stone and brick facades.”
In the small projects category, the Westonbirt Welcome Building has been shortlisted. The sustainability of the building, whilst creating an exemplar UK sourced timber structure were crucial requirements. In order to realise the architect’s design, our structural team had to provide a roof with no visible tie support something which sets the structure apart.
Finally, the Redcar Leisure and Community Heart development has be shortlisted in the regional groups category, the judges refer to the project as “A landmark structure that brings real benefits to the local community.”
