Erleen Hatfield and Heidi Creighton to present at AIA National Convention in Philadelphia
Two BuroHappold Engineering leaders – Erleen Hatfield, principal and Heidi Creighton, associate – will be speaking at the AIA National Convention, an annual event that brings together many of the nation’s most respected industry visionaries, and is dubbed the “architecture and design event of the year.”
The Convention, taking place in Philadelphia from May 18th through May 21st, features a long list of noteworthy speakers – including keynoters Kevin Spacey, Neri Oxman, and Rem Koolhaas – along with a number of exciting parties, exhibitions, seminars, and more. On Thursday, May 19th, Erleen and Heidi will be presenting on topics within their respective fields, structural engineering and health and wellness.
From 7 to 8AM, Erleen will participate in a session titled, “Creating Transcendent Spaces through Exposed Materials,” during which she will discuss the use of materials in design and the impact they have on the people using the space. Later on that day, from 3:30 to 4:30PM, Heidi will present on a panel titled, “Healthy and Happy: The Importance and Value of Human Capital.” Joining her on the panel will be: Vivian Loftness, University Professor & Paul Mellon Chair of Architecture at Carnegie Melon University; Amanda Kaminsky, Founder of Building Product Ecosystems; and Leigh Christy, associate principal at Perkins+Will. The discussion will focus on how healthy and happy employees lead to a more productive workplace, and how its strategic design can assist in achieving optimal results in overall wellbeing.
