Buro Happold recognised as a Disability Confident Employer

The practice is proud to announce we have been awarded a Disability Confident UK certificate.

Achieving a Level 1 certificate from the government-run Disability Confident scheme shows we are committed to ensuring we assess our actions and provisions in providing an accessible workplace for all.

During the next 12 months we will focus on ensuring we offer a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process, identifying and addressing any barriers that may prevent or deter disabled people from applying for jobs.

Working with external providers, we will offer meaningful work experience opportunities to disabled people so they can demonstrate their abilities and gain valuable experience of a workplace.

We will promote a culture where employees have the confidence to safely disclose any disability or long-term health condition. Wider access to mentoring, coaching, buddying and other support networks for staff will be made a priority.

Neil Smith, associate director said, “The values of diversity and inclusion are integral parts of life at Buro Happold, as it is through our diverse teams that we provide innovative and relevant solutions to our work and culture. Being Disability Confident is an important step forward and will help us to tap into a wider pool of talent and support.”

Lucy Miller, global head of inclusion, diversity and engagement said, “Our goal is to achieve full accreditation under the Disability Confident scheme, to help ensure we provide an inclusive environment for all. It’s a great way to ensure we’re making the appropriate improvements required and demonstrates our commitment to reaching our inclusion aims now and into the future.”

By using the evaluation processes laid out by the scheme, we will continue to develop our capabilities and awareness of what needs to improve.
