BuroHappold at MIPIM 2019
Join BuroHappold at MIPIM 2019 from the 12th to 15th March. Our experts will be talking about how we are tackling the big issues facing our cities, using design and science to create places that are centred around people and wellbeing.
The world is increasingly urbanising, with more and more people living in closer proximity than ever before, cities accounting for 65% of population, 80% of economic output, 75% of the world’s primary energy consumption. This offers opportunities for personal enrichment and great diversity of experiences, but there are challenges to overcome

Our experts will be talking about challenges such as:
Mobility – How do we allow people to travel efficiently within cities?
Air quality – How do we ensure our developments improve air quality?
Energy – How do we create green, low carbon cities?
Health and wellbeing – How do we ensure we create cities where people can thrive?
Resilience – How do we ensure cities are protected against chronic stresses and acute shocks they experience?
Engagement – How do we ensure people feel they have a have a stake in the development of their communities?
Examples of our recent work:
We have developed tools to allow us rapid optioneer masterplan and building options with collaborators, helping people understand the impacts of their decisions in real-time on issues such as noise, air quality, congestion and energy. Using this evidence base, we can then link these to health and wellbeing outcomes, and ultimately financial performance. These tools are not a black box hidden away but are a vital part of our engagement with communities ensuring that people are at the heart of what we do.

BuroHappold + Battersea:
One of the major projects BuroHappold is currently undertaking is the redevelopment of the Battersea Power Station site, including the iconic Grade 2* listed Power Station building. Our experts were closely involved in the management of the stakeholders during the design to planning, including English Heritage, the 20th Century Society and Wandsworth Council. The refurbishment of the Power Station itself is a complicated mix, including the careful preservation of historic aspects of the building and high-tech solutions to energy provision – ensuring a mixed use development fit for the 21st century and beyond, whilst retaining its unique place in history.
