Christian will lead the growth of Buro Happold’s geographical reach, as well as our consultancy and advisory service offer. He will also become a Buro Happold Partner and join our Global Leadership Team.

Christian’s senior appointment reflects his successful career across a number of major service providers in Germany, most recently as Chief Operating Officer of Arcadis in Central Europe. He brings a wealth of engineering and consulting expertise, key client relationships, as well as strong local knowledge and insights into European markets.

I am joining at the start of a hugely promising next chapter in the Buro Happold story. I will be using all of my experience to build on the strong existing network already in Berlin, Munich, Warsaw, Copenhagen and Rotterdam. Through organic growth, alongside strategic acquisitions, we will strengthen the creative and technical talent across Europe that has earned Buro Happold its world-class reputation.

Buro Happold’s Chief Executive Officer James Bruce said of the announcement, “Europe is central to our ambitions over the next five years, so we are overjoyed to have Christian at the helm. This is an incredibly exciting time as we evolve as a business with a far wider reach both on the continent and across the globe.”

Christian’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Buro Happold, and it forms a central part of our global growth strategy. When James was appointed as CEO in May 2021, he unveiled his ambitious plans to double the business from 2,000 to 4,000 employees in six years. This will be achieved through acquisitions, joint ventures and partnerships in key regions across the globe, including Europe.

For over 25 years, we have been involved in some of the most iconic projects across Europe including Munich’s SAP Garden sports arena, the Varso Tower in Warsaw, and the award-winning Lille Langebro bridge in Copenhagen.
