Damien Kerkhof BuroHappold Malaysia Director
BuroHappold has been working as a consulting engineer on projects in Malaysia for over 15 years on projects including; KLIA, Dayabumi Tower, KL Metropolis, Tun Razak Exchange and Seri Tanjung Pinang. It was therefore a logical progression in early 2014 to establish a projects office to better support our local and regional clients and work more closely with local design collaborators.
In the building sector – a core BuroHappold strength, – our multi-disciplinary approach, is helping developers and architects realise greater efficiency in building design and providing greater consideration for operational efficiency and maintenance. Areas traditionally of little concern within the market, but increasingly coming to the fore due to a combination of increasing sustainability aspirations, multinational tenant requirements and increased resource cost.
On the urban development front the recent and continued forward shift in focus towards Transit Oriented Developments (TOD) plays into BuroHappold’s core strengths of supporting public partners in the design of transport interchanges and private sector developers in the delivery of schemes to utilise the benefits that increased public transport provision affords. This draws upon our global specialists including transport planning, people movement, geotechnical and building engineering design.
Our Malaysia projects office provides BuroHappold with a strong base and intellectual capital from which to service the regional market. Further it also provides opportunities for us to support Malaysia based developers and funders in entering foreign markets in which we have significant market expertise and knowledge.
