Where could I add value?
You could help make a real difference on some of the most exciting and complex engineering challenges happening right now. We offer a range of specialist disciplines to our graduates every year. View our specialist engineering pages to see where your career could start with BuroHappold.
What could i learn?
We recently overhauled our Employee Personal Development Reviews to embrace new neuroscience research that focuses on encouraging employee-led career conversations. The introduction of My Career Plan and Objectives demonstrates our commitment to support our people and ensure we tailor career prospects for everyone.
Emerging Professionals Programme
Our graduates learn the fundamentals of design and technology whilst building a base in consulting and professional skills. This is a blended learning programme where participants gain experience against our internal professional and technical frameworks in relation to their specialism. A mixture of classroom and online learning supplements both the technical and professional skills development. We have an additional range of options for training associated with BIM & digital design and delivery.
Professional Registration (Chartership)
We see membership of a professional body and professional registration as crucial to the development of our engineers and offer substantial support to those aspiring to achieve this. In the UK, all employees are encouraged to have up to two professional memberships. Engineers outside the UK are encouraged to demonstrate their technical competence through membership of an international body related to their specialism.
We have fertile communities for Engineers to share new ideas, for all to learn and benefit from each other. Less formally, our networking events (e.g. Speed Date a Chartered Engineer) allow graduates to learn from senior colleagues in a friendly, informative way. “Ted Talks”, in memory of our founder Ted Happold, are lunchtime talks that focus on a specific topic to give you a broader understanding as to what’s going on within the wider Engineering space.
Work, have fun, and make a real difference!
The social life here is great, providing even more opportunities to get to know more people! My team (and the wider BuroHappold community) have made me feel welcome and valued within the company
Will Webb, Graduate Mechanical Engineer, Bath
Our Young Engineers Forum is unique within the industry – a community organised by our young engineers to welcome you into the practice and provide a network to support and share in your future growth.
“As part of our YEF outreach activities, I joined a skype call with students of girls school. I showed our office; described the responsibilities of my role and then replied their questions.
Through our conversation, I believe the girls got an inside on our fascinating engineering world and hopefully got inspired to explore it.”
James Forsey, Graduate Infrastructure Engineer
Our Share Our Skills programme allows employees to carry out non-fee paying project work, during regular work time. The aim is to support those who want to offer our skills and services to those who need it most. Employees can apply for a share of an annual ‘time-pot’ to carry out the work required for a suitable project.
“I love to attend our social events – we’ve gone to the beach, seen plays, and revelled in a night of Korean BBQ and Karaoke. Not only is it fun but it builds a stronger community around the office.”
Josie Adams, Office Manager, Los Angeles
Make new friends
“We recently hosted our friends from Berlin, here in Warsaw and organised a fun weekend of activities such as a site visit, introduced them to our Warsaw office and Polish culture!”
Anna Jancy, Graduate Engineer, Warsaw
