Helping you create vibrant places where communities and businesses can grow and thrive
Are you undertaking a complex urban transformation project; whether at regional or city level, or at city block scale, or in the spaces that make up the fabric of the city? Tackling a wide range of technical challenges, our work has unlocked major regeneration projects in cities around the world.
Breathing new life into former industrial sites
On the Greenwich Peninsular in London, 15,000 homes are being built on a site once dominated by Europe’s biggest gasworks, taking full advantage of the world-class entertainment facilities of the O2, and the connectivity offered by the Jubilee Line station and Emirates Airline cable car.
Our work on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has seen the transformation of a desolate and contaminated industrial site, firstly into the home of the world’s greenest and most accessible Olympics, and now into its vibrant Olympic legacy mode, with new neighbourhoods of 10,000 homes, a premiership football stadium, a high tech incubator hub, and the Stratford Waterfront cultural and educational district, including the UCL East campus and outposts of world renowned institutions including the Victoria & Albert Museum, and Sadlers Wells Ballet.
Is your city making optimal use of valuable space, to drive economic activity and accommodate growing populations? We are delivering successful Transit Oriented Developments around the world – dense mixed use developments around transit hubs that provide homes and employment, retail and facilities to support a vibrant community. They also deliver increased revenues to the transport network provider, and enhanced connectivity to the people living and working in the area. Transbay in San Francisco is seeing a vibrant new district created around a redesigned transit hub and Battersea is seeing an exciting development of apartments, retail and offices built over a new extension to the Northern Line tube, around its redeveloped iconic power station.
New districts and cities
Working with local civic leaders we are helping to plan and design new districts and cities that will shepherd in a new, more sustainable approach to urban living, such as the King Abdullah City for Atomic & Renewable Energy (KA-CARE) and the 75ha Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) financial district in Kuala Lumpur. This will see a new district that raises the bar for urban development, with user experience enhanced by a high quality public realm integrated with technology enabled mobility and sustainability strategies. On Detroit Future City and Future Riyadh we have helped city leaders to examine the obstacles in the way of their vision, defining the strategies and programmes to make concrete progress.
Integrating ranges of specialist skills to deliver the whole
Our work is characterised by a holistic approach to urban development, integrating the inputs of experts across a range of disciplines; At Berezniki, Solikamsk and Usolye in the Russian Ural mountains we examined the broad range of social, economic and environmental challenges and developed strategies and a masterplan to create a more liveable city. Our Strategic Planners and Economists assist our clients with visioning, and the development of strategic briefs and business cases. Our technical experts provide a comprehensive understanding of the site’s constraints and opportunities and work with urban and landscape designers to develop masterplans, create a resilient infrastructure framework, and guide applications through the planning system.
