Retail

Today’s retail market is highly competitive, with web-savvy consumers more discerning than ever. That is why creating ultimate shopping experiences is so important.

In a large retail complex the success is often in the detail. Easy navigation through the centre, strategically placed rest and eating areas and interactive information points are all conducive to enhance and extend the shopping experience. By carefully monitoring people flow and dwell times we can show how design changes can affect footfall and shopping patterns.

Shoppers are notoriously fickle: with no shortage of opportunities for retail therapy, retaining customer loyalty and generating new has become the primary challenge for retailers. To ensure repeat visits a well laid-out retail environment is important: modern, clean, safe and easily accessible with adequate parking and good transport links, to ensure maximum shopping time and minimum hassle providing the retailers’ with the highest volumes of consumer traffic.

The physical design of a retail space has an enormous influence on the mood and behaviour of shoppers; the decision whether or not to buy can be affected by the quality, shape and ambience of the environment, so BuroHappold looks carefully at all aspects of the retail environment such as building materials, natural and artificial lighting, acoustics and landscaping, while considering the operational and management expenditure of the development.

BuroHappold’s retail projects vary in size and type from major shopping malls to high-end store re-fits, from greenfield developments to retail-led urban regeneration schemes. Our buildings combine state-of-the-art façade engineering with low energy heating and ventilation systems to create comfortable and sustainable retail spaces.

Our retail experience also covers strategic consultancy work for blue-chip retailers as well as assisting the supply chain in meeting their every evolving needs of greening their processes allowing us to bring together a broad range of our in-house engineering skills.
