Facade and Sustainability Masterclass – Part one

Assessing and improving facade fabric efficiency in existing buildings

Facing the current Climate Emergency, it has never been more important to develop energy efficient interventions to upgrade existing buildings fabric. The intention is to investigate facade opportunities, sustainability technical requirements and viability of retrofitting existing buildings in the UK to pursue zero-carbon in construction and in operation.

This first Facade and Sustainability Masterclass gives insight into the workflow in assessing and improving the facade elements with efficient thermal solutions with a focus on non-domestic existing buildings.

Enabling the clients to make informed decisions while upgrading the facade fabric efficiency is amongst the roles of the facade and sustainability consultants. This session will present types of facade intervention that are viable solutions to meet sustainability requirements. Study cases from the UCL Institute of Education, 7 Burlington Garden and Appleton Tower will be introduced, providing examples to find the appropriate balance between historic building conservation and energy efficiency.
