Commercial office

There are thought to be over 3 billion people working in offices around the globe, employed in a vast array of occupations, and working in a wide variety and standard of accommodation.

Offices come in all shapes and sizes and incorporate a variety of functions; many commercial centres balance and integrate home, leisure and work often in one building while in some cities the central business district is king and work is the only function.

Changes to the world economy set new challenges to the commercial office sector; economies shrink, demand falls and occupiers expect better deals; economies boom, demand outstrip supply and office space constrains growth - affordable business accommodation with built-in flexibility and future-proofed systems underpin modern commercial investments and set a challenging brief to the construction sector. Add to this the increasing pressure to deliver greater levels of sustainability and to drive carbon emissions towards zero and you have a dynamic fast changing sector.

Buro Happold has the expertise and experience of creating cutting edge office space that doesn’t cost the earth: literally and figuratively. We create buildings with lower running costs and low emissions by harnessing natural lighting, ventilation and recycling grey-water, creating happier, healthier work environments. We build in flexibility enabling the user to rapidly re-configure their surroundings – saving time, space, money and hassle.

With our multidisciplinary capabilities we can integrate structural and services design to make a better, cheaper building and reduce waste too. We are experts at developing ‘place-making’ strategies, benefiting the client, the end-user and the wider community. It’s our business – let us develop your business too.
