Stanley Primary Care Centre
1 / Introduction
The impressive new Stanley Primary Care Centre (PCC) in County Durham has been designed to provide a wide range of healthcare services for the former colliery town and the surrounding area. Replacing the existing health centre, the complex also boasts new facilities that include x-ray diagnostics, a minor operations suite and a Child Development Centre.
The brief for Stanley PCC was to create a pleasant, non-threatening ambience for both adults and children and to meet demanding energy efficiency targets set by the client.
Combining elegant design with cost-effective, practical solutions, a low carbon footprint and adaptability to meet future needs, Buro Happold worked closely with the architect to provide a holistic range of services.
The design for Stanley PCC created a generous amount of open, column-free space, providing staff and patients with a friendly, open environment while further facilitating any future internal works. We were also able to save our client money on build cost and provide additional space for housing the building’s services by reducing the number of beams within the centre.
Stanley PCC provided Buro Happold with the opportunity to excel at what we do best: working closely with clients, architects and across our internal teams to solve problems and provide commercially viable solutions that are both aesthetic and pragmatic.
