Sahl Hasheesh International Resort Community
1 / Introduction
The Sahl Hasheesh International Resort Community is located on the Red Sea coast some 30k south of Hurghada. The development covering 41km² is designed to provide a fully integrated resort and residential community through world class urban planning.
The key challenge is to develop a sustainable, economically viable and practical design approach to providing a valuable amenity through the use of water that meets the aspirations of the client and the masterplanning architects.
Buro Happold’s role has been to focus on lake and waterway options including carrying out a feasibility analysis and developing engineering concept designs. These include considerations of water balance and circulation and have required close collaboration with other members of the consultancy team covering disciplines such as energy, sustainability, water supply and treatment, and environment.
The provision of water amenity and waterfront space in a region where water is scarce doesn’t just add commercial value to the development, but improves the quality of open space and provides interesting and attractive recreation space for local residents and visitors.
