Reliance Global Headquarters
1 / Introduction
For the new Reliance Global Headquarters in Mumbai, India, HOK and Buro Happold designed and developed a 9-story, 400,000 square foot sustainable facility with features including owner-occupied commercial offices, support space, and two levels of underground parking.
With a fast-track 18-month design and build schedule, Buro Happold formed a multinational, integrated design team to provide a multidisciplinary approach to the project, providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering and structural engineering, as well as sustainability, lighting, security, and traffic consulting services. Concept and schematic design stages were led out of our Los Angeles offices, where a fully integrated MEP Building Information Model (BIM) was developed, while design development, construction documentation, and administration were led out of our local Mumbai office.
To reach energy reduction goals, present and projected fundamental energy use breakdowns were studied to understand how and where energy is used within the facility. Thermal modeling of the building was used to determine the optimum facade performance and building envelope specifications in order to develop daylighting strategies and modeling in conjunction with the development of the facade concept. An on-site sewage treatment facility will be implemented, along with recycling and treatment of storm water, gray water, black water systems, and rainwater harvesting.
Upon project completion in 2012, the new Reliance Global Headquarters will achieve LEED Gold rating by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
