Liberty Corner
1 / Introduction
Liberty Corner is a unique class A+ building equipped with the most cutting-edge building management systems (BMS). Located in the heart of Warsaw, the development comprises of 7 over ground storeys housing office space to lease with the total area of over 5,000 sqm and the office of the Polish Press Agency (PAP) occupying an area of 2,500 sqm. Architectural details in the lobby refer to the communism era when the building served as a headquarters of the Main Office of Press Control. Today it houses the offices of prestigious companies and institutions such as the Embassy of Ireland, among others.
By applying modern techniques in the area of structural engineering, Buro Happold engineers established new standards for designing office buildings of this class developed in Poland. As stated in the investor’s presumptions, the building was expected to offer an open space allowing flexibility in terms of fit out depending on particular needs and requirements. For this reason Buro Happold’s team used a compression ceiling technology that enabled eliminating of structural pillars from the office spaces. Liberty Corner is the first office building in Poland that is free of structural pillars in the office spaces.
The choice of structural engineering solutions was also determined by the densely built-up area next to the development, consequently the buildings’ substructures in the deep excavation area needed to be secured. In order to do this, Buro Happold’s designers proposed a ‘jet grouting’ technique.
The Buro Happold team’s experience in designing prestigious office buildings contributed to realizing this project as a world class development.
In 2003, Liberty Corner was awarded 1st prize in the prestigious Building of the Year competition organized by the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians (PZiTB), the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure and the General Inspector of Building Control, and received “The Best Address in Warsaw 2004” award.
