Hounslow East Station
1 / Introduction
Working closely with the architects, Buro Happold completed the successful redevelopment of the tube station at Hounslow East. The development created new office areas, reception and ticket hall.
With a curved timber lamellar roof structure, curved translucent facade and glass curtain walling, Buro Happold, along with the architects, achieved the innovate brief set by the client’s objectives.
A lamella structure was chosen because of the clean and uncluttered appearance, the relatively simple construction method and ease of transportation to the site and repetition in fabrication.
As an above-ground station, the option for a timber roof was suggested. During the design process steps weretaken to assure the client this material choice would stand the test of time. The design for column-out cases caters for accidental collision damage on the main facade.
