Bernardo has extensive experience in masterplanning and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) related work. He is currently involved in several external urban environment analyses in the Middle East, Europe and Worldwide. Several of these projects have been recently carried out in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al ain), Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, Dhahran (projects included Ka-Care, King Abdulla Botanical Gardens and King Abdulla Cultural Centre within others) and Bahrain. Studies included assessment of pedestrian comfort around buildings (wind, temperature, etc), sand drift, snow drift and pollution dispersion for ventilation and environmental assessments using desk top, CFD and supporting wind tunnel studies. He also has substantial experience in solar and daylight access and shadowcast analysis which are a key consideration in modern urban design and Environmental Impact Assessments.

Bernardo has a wealth of experience in Fire Safety Engineering (FSE) CFD modelling. He has had formal training in CFD modelling at Greenwich University and AEA Technology. He is currently involved in the development and application of CFD codes to fire engineering problems. His work includes the application of Risk Assessment techniques, mathematical analysis and CFD to fire safety. He worked in close collaboration with AEA for the Millennium Dome project.

Bernardo has also been involved in the planning, design and execution of many CFD predictions and thermal load and energy calculations for different types of buildings (natural ventilated, etc), including buildings before construction, reconditioned buildings and the assessment of new technology in prototype buildings using CFD.
