Syd Pycroft

Leads Buro Happold’s Bath-based team of geotechnical engineers.

Syd is an Associate Director with extensive experience in the geotechnical aspects of marine, and building engineering projects worldwide.

He has over 30 years’ professional experience in geotechnical engineering, of which nine years have been spent on the geotechnical aspects of dredging and coastal engineering projects, both in the offices of an international dredging contractor and on overseas sites. Syd has wide experience of providing geotechnical solutions across a range of sectors, regions, and geological settings; he has worked on large and small projects across the UK and overseas.

His extensive experience of the application of computer techniques in geotechnical design, and of the manipulation and presentation of geotechnical data, helps when communicating complex geotechnical issues to other team members. Syd is also at home working with multidisciplinary teams and seeks to manage risk associated with the ground throughout a project’s lifecycle. Syd believes that it is better to avoid problems through an early understanding of the ground model and appropriate design solutions rather than having to solve problems late in a project’s design, or even during construction.
