Susan has over 15 years experience in sustainable planning and development including project management, operational planning, concept development and master planning. She studied Architecture at Technical University of Berlin and Delft Technical University (NL) and holds a PhD in Engineering and Science with a thesis on building with low impact on the environment. After working for SANAA and Jun Aoki in Japan and LIN Architects and Urbanists in Germany she was Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture, Technical University of Berlin and project leader of an interdisciplinary research project on sustainable buildings. Susan came to Buro Happold in 2008.
Susan is Associate Director and responsible for sustainable developments for Central Europe Region. Her experience spans every level of building development from the policies of developers and environmental assessments, through design and construction, the operation of buildings to master planning. She plays an active role in the development of the German Certificate for Sustainable Buildings. As a specialist for international assessment systems Susan supervised a federally-founded research project that compares DGNB with the international assessment systems LEED and BREEAM.
