Ian Booth is a partner and expert MEP engineer in Buro Happold’s New York office. With more than 30 years of experience, Ian is a proven leader with strong technical abilities who has delivered award-winning project designs.

Ian is adept at developing decarbonization pathways that achieve net zero carbon emissions along with financially robust plans that support and immediately facilitate energy solutions across existing real estate portfolios and new building designs. Ian intimately understands the technical solutions needed to decarbonize the built environment and is an expert at communicating complex strategies and their necessity to his clients and design teams to meet or even exceed sustainability goals.

His creative engineering approach – ranging from project concept to completion – has allowed him to explore innovative MEP solutions that incorporate the latest technologies and deliver minimized energy usage. As a dedicated practitioner, he was instrumental in designing Buro Happold’s Warsaw new healthy office that achieved WELL Gold certification and includes outstanding acoustical performance, optimum daylighting controls and an efficient ventilation system. Ian is passionate about working with clients who are interested in high performance and future proof engineering solutions.

Before moving to New York, some of his most notable work as project principal included the Museum of Modern Art WarsawWarsaw Symphony Concert HallQ22 Commercial Office and Warsaw One, both commercial office towers; and Überseequartier in Hamburg.

Ian is currently working on a portfolio-wide project with the Empire State Realty Trust to develop a bold program that will address building energy demands and supply, as well as weigh cost and savings. Ian recently led the completion of Powerhouse, a new cultural project that sits on a former Brooklyn power station, as well as the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
