Head of Retail Sector

Having studied civil engineering with Architecture at Leeds University, Helen held a number of positions in companies in London before undertaking an architectural degree in Belfast. This has given her a unique insight into the boundaries between engineering and architecture. With this knowledge, Helen is able to provide a thoroughly holistic approach to her projects. She joined Buro Happold in 1998.

Whilst working holistically in a multi-disciplinary team, Helen has been instrumental in attaining high levels of sustainability in the built environment and is actively collaborating with architectural practices who are similarly motivated.  Her extensive project experience ranges from R&D to international masterplan scale.

As director of our Retail sector, Helen’s multi-disciplinary experience and passion of advancing and challenging the form of buildings she continues to add value to retail spaces. This critical sector group are working across the globe not only on retail malls but also on strategic consultancy work for blue-chip retailers as well as assisting the supply chain in meeting their every evolving needs of greening their processes.

With a belief that building engineering should be advancing faster than it is, Helen delights in finding and embracing the next steps in her field. This attitude to innovation and creativity is mirrored in the core principles of Buro Happold: care, value and elegance.
