Gerry joined Buro Happold as Director of Transportation in August 2006 responsible for the transportation service offered by our dedicated teams in Bath,  London and Abu Dhabi. The group has recently opened a project office in Kuwait City consolidating a long-standing transportation presence in Kuwait.

Gerry has over 30 years experience in traffic engineering and transport planning. Whilst at Buro Happold he has been involved in numerous projects in the UK, Ireland, Middle East and Russia.  Gerry’s team has also secured significant free-standing transportation projects in Mozambique and in Mumbai.

He has worked across the private and public sectors managing large scale transportation strategies and projects. Prior to joining Buro Happold he spent two years at Manager of Highways Development Control at Gloucestershire County Council. He managed the setting up of Arup’s Transportation capability in Germany in the 1990’s. Gerry has worked with smaller transport consultants and also spent four years with the Greater London Council (GLC). He started his career working in consultancy in Dublin delivering the Dublin Bus Study and the Dublin Traffic Management Model.

Gerry studied Civil Engineering in Dublin, progressing as far as a Technician Certificate. He gained an HNC in Civil Engineering from Westminster College and Certificate and Diploma in Transport Studies from London University. He was awarded an Open University (OU) degree in 1996 and is currently studying for an MSc with the OU. Gerry sits on the Highways Agency Spatial Planning Working Group.
