Under Armour unveils plans for new global headquarters

Under Armour recently unveiled a master plan to build an iconic high-performance global headquarters campus in Baltimore’s Port Covington district. The proposed urban waterfront campus will accommodate 10,000 Under Armour teammates, occupy approximately 4 million square feet, include public access around the Port Covington peninsula, and dramatically transform a former industrial site.

True to Under Armour’s enterprising spirit, the new global campus is designed to be performance-driven. Its design focuses on interaction, flexibility, resource conservation, and ecological stewardship of the Patapsco River’s Middle Branch and Chesapeake Bay. The campus will become a model for urban development, efficiently centralizing a high density of people on a small piece of urban land. Through its master plan, Under Armour’s campus buildings are designed to adapt to the ever-changing business landscape.

The renowned Baltimore-based headquarters will forever change the way Baltimore is positioned moving forward. Under Armour’s global campus will initiate a resurgence of Port Covington and a revival of Baltimore. The new headquarters will be a model among creative workplace campuses – and by anchoring itself in the heart of Baltimore – Under Armour will continue its commitment to the City’s economic revitalization, catalyzing urban development, and helping to restore the Patapsco River ecology.

Buro Happold has been engaged with Under Armour for over a year, and has led the master plan’s technical components, including the energy and water infrastructure solutions, Information Communication Technology (ICT) plans and integrated engineering services – mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural engineering and lighting, façade, and life safety design. Together with Under Armour, Buro Happold developed and led a highly customized High-Performance Campus (HPC) Framework, which acts as a set of guiding principles for Under Armour’s global headquarters and ensures that the new world-class campus embodies the company’s core values and supports its mission.

Buro Happold worked closely with Under Armour and the rest of the design team, including architects Bohlin Cywinski Jacksonand landscape firm Nelson Byrd Woltz. Construction of the approximately 4 million square foot campus is expected to be completed in several stages over the next few decade
