Greening our offices

It isn’t just great engineering ideas our teams are cultivating. Sustainability engineers in our Los Angeles and London offices have created ‘garden clubs’ to improve workplace wellbeing and add a little nature to our rooftops.

A highly sustainable workplace already, and inspired by the idea of urban food production, our LA office have been leading the way on greening our offices.  A range of fruit and vegetables suited to the Californian climate and limited water availability have been selected including, lemons, avocados  as well as other water conserving plants such as succulents and herbs. The team have been putting their skills to good use, considering options such as rainwater capture and diverting grey water from showers for irrigation. It was also a great opportunity to get other family members involved in growing and caring for plants.

Meanwhile, following on from health and wellbeing month in our London office the sustainability team looked at how we could improve our office environment and staff wellbeing. As a result our green-fingered London engineering team have been trying out their gardening skills by ‘planting the terrace’. Our sustainability consultants researched suitable plants that attract wildlife and support mental wellbeing as well as investigating solar shading analysis to understand which plants would thrive in which areas.

“Bringing nature to the workplace was a fascinating idea, thanks to those with green fingers who made this happen and brought a general upbeat feeling to our terrace.”
Hadi Ibrahim, Senior Sustainability Consultant

We saw people from all teams get digging and here is the result. A glorious terrace to enjoy the sun whilst working or taking a break!

After the success in London and LA employees in our other offices are looking into how they can get add some nature into their offices.
