Buro Happold to deliver new neurology centre in denmark

Buro Happold is part of the winning team delivering the new neurological rehabilitation centre at Glostrup Hospital in Copenhagen.  The centre will mark Glostrup Hospital as one of the world’s leaders in specialised rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries.

The team working on the project is compiled of Buro Happold, AART Architects and Nordic Office of Architecture.

Frank Schwartz, senior structural engineer Buro Happold, cited, “ We were really pleased to be chosen to work on this project which reflects our integrated holistic approach, considering  the function, architecture and sustainability of the building. The centre when completed will mean Glostrup Hospital can offer patients all over eastern Denmark an enhanced setting to endure their long and intensive rehabilitation process.”

The new centre offers 125 ward beds for the rehabilitation of patients with severe brain and spinal cord injuries. In addition there are new training facilities equipped with advanced rehabilitation technology, a training pool and a multi-functional training hall as well as outpatient clinics and sections dedicated to research. The centre will be built around two courtyards to ensure the patients have access to maximum daylight during their recovery.

The design of the centre makes it easy and simple to navigate around the common room, swimming pool and training hall which will all be located on the ground floor. This is vitally important for patients in wheelchairs and creates ease of access for those with low neurological function.

The centre will offer a smooth patient journey with high quality experiences, organisation and professional services. It has been designed to an integrated concept which combines in depth knowledge of healing architecture with highly specialised physical frameworks.
